Buon ferragosto …

Today is a holiday in Italy (and lots of other parts of Europe too)!

I have a lot I want to write and say about how much I used to work on ferragosto and how glad I am that I don’t anymore/that I’m not working today and how much my value system has changed and how very, very grateful I am for my friends and this adopted country of mine.

But instead I’ll just leave it at: today I ate ricci di mare and seafood salad and drank white wine. This morning when I woke up, I picked a huge basket of figs fresh from the tree in the Maremma countryside and today I ate more of said figs than I could possibly count. I’m feeling pretty happy to be exactly where I am in this exact moment. And, y’know, I think that’s pretty much the juiciest feeling there is.
