Women’s Circles ⭕️
My mama has been part of women’s groups and circles my whole entire life. Growing up, I remember the nights she would go to her gatherings, how normal it seemed, how obvious surrounding yourself by women always seemed to me because of her example.
I’ve never been one of those girls who doesn’t like other girls. The girls who go “yeah, girls are fine but guys are sooooo much easier”. I get it though. I know those girls. I love those girls.
Anyone who knows me personally (lots of you!) knows that I’ve also been lucky enough to have a lot of really amazing guy friends throughout my life who are, in many ways “easy”. Love y’all!
But there’s something oh so special about women gathering together.
Something primal.
Something very “Women Who Run With The Wolves”.
I’ve been leading and co-leading women’s events, retreats, and circles for a few years now and I’m always amazed, each time, how much guards are up in the beginning, and how much they come down after a few poignant moments of connection.
A moment of realizing you share a dream, a fear, a desire with someone else.
This is, of course, true in mixed groups as well. In fact, I started this work thinking I’d work exclusively with women (and women identified) people and have since been thrilled to expand out of that model.
This weekend I have the enormous privilege of hosting 17 women on a Wellness Retreat in Hot Springs, NC.
It’s my first US retreat.
My first time organizing it all by myself.
Getting ready for it is exhilarating, exciting, a tiny bit overwhelming.
Five years ago to the day I was halfway done with my @zunayoga 200-hr teacher training. If I could have seen the girl in this picture (at a women’s circle in Bali last month, @buongiornoyoga) or writing this right now preparing for her 10th retreat I would never have believed it.
And I could never, ever have done it without the support of so many magical women.
