Here be dragons!
From medieval times, this expression refers to “dangerous or unexplored territories”. What a fun metaphor for January 2022 right? Kidding. Kind of. The world feels dangerous and yet explorable, too. This winter feels long and yet my goodness I’m loving being cozy.
I’m continuing to refer back to both/and. Honestly I find myself saying it multiple times every single day.
Almost exactly 4 years ago I finished a (life changing) yoga teacher training with @zunayoga.
I finished it and the next day I went to the far-reaching corners of Indonesia to meet @sushisush3 and @jamesbelgrave and @cameron_how in Flores. After a whole month of not drinking alcohol and waking up at 5:30am for 2.5 hours of asana practice, I found myself sipping gin and tonics at 11am in the sunshine on a live aboard boat. Get it? Both/and.
One day, we went and we saw Komodo dragons. Which, side note, are absolutely terrifying and actually eat people but they can’t climb so you wander around with them like it’s f**king normal, which it absolutely is not. Anyway. We talked about old maps. When cartographers arrived to these islands they would simply mark the edge of the territory (often with drawings of mythological creatures and monsters): ‘Here be dragons’.
What they were saying: it’s dangerous here. It’s unexplored.
This is how a lot of us seem to be feeling about Winter 2022. The future, by its very nature, is unexplored (and could be dangerous?).
So why all of that on this picture? Cause I’m a yoga teacher now (still). And I feel a sense of excitement and anticipation (still!) thinking about the rest of 2022. I have yoga retreats and women’s circles and private tours all starting to line up. Everything feels a little… uncharted. Reminding myself to rest, relax and not overthink (ha).
