My goodness so this is what I’ve been missing?!

For the past ten years, I’ve worked in the summer. Like, a lot. Tour guiding in one of the most visited cities in the world is (was) a non-stop commitment. My schedule filled up months in advance. On many occasions I found myself realizing that I hadn’t had a single day off for 15-20-25 days in a row. Why? So many reasons. Because I’m a (recovering) workaholic. Because I liked to keep myself busy. Because I thought I should be. But, most importantly- because I adore it. Through it’s highs and lows it was (and will be again) a literal dream job.

What’s my point? In February, when tourism came to a screeching halt in Rome I kept saying one thing: if this is the year I get to actually summer like the Italians, bring it on. I had no idea then what the devastating global consequences of this pandemic would look like. I couldn’t (and still cannot) predict the future... but I knew one thing, people will always want to visit Italy. Hopefully the future holds more sustainable and nourishing tourism. So for me, being present means sticking to my word: I’m enjoying this summer to the fullest.
I’ve been posting a lot of dolce vita pictures recently. To be honest, I’ve gotten some surprisingly negative feedback. So here goes:
1. This is social media, we’re all curating our lives.
2. I’m posting about Italy so that you, reading this, will start to fantasize about your future Italy trips and reach out if you need help planning it.
3. The Italians sure do know how to summer.
Sending big, juicy love to you wherever you are in the world. Can’t wait to see you here in the future!
