There’s all these little... things about Rome that I always want to share with people 💛
Like the script on the sign that says ‘Bar’ above Bar San Calisto or the institution that is this little bar tucked away behind one of the most beautiful churches in the city (in my opinion). Or like the fact that there’s literally grafiti everywhere, especially in Trastevere, and no, it doesn’t really bother me but I understand it’s surprising when you see it for the first time. Like the fact that the crumbling walls and patina buildings make my heart skip a beat. The shutters on windows make me think of opening up my own home at least once a day to let air circulate through my apartment (something I’m 90% sure I didn’t do before moving here over ten years ago). The man in the hat in the foreground whose gesture is as clear as day “its in that direction” or “something happened over there”. Also have you noticed the cobblestones? Yes. I love them too but my goodness they’re not easy to drive on, especially with a motorino, especially in the rain. So they’re kinda perfect for little side streets but not amazing for main roads.
We’re in zona rosso again but people are leaving their houses and passeggiando and we’re all a little weary of forever lockdowns and we’re also all excited about primavera being officially here. Yesterday was the Spring Equinox and it feels like the flowers are literally blooming out of cement all over the city. Rome is wild and filled with unexpected grass in places that are normally heavily trodden by tourists. I’ve said it before: I feel so damn blessed to be in this city at this time. Roma, my love, I like ya a lot!
