“This is the real secret of life -- to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play.” @alanwattsorg
This exuberant action shot with my ponytail sticking straight up in the air (please notice that detail, it’s my favorite) makes me smile.
Isn’t it delightful to play and laugh and connect? To realize and recognize that most people around us, when given the opportunity, will be willing to go deeper than we might’ve expected, to connect more wholly than we might have given them credit for and to open up even in the circumstances of gathering with a brand new group of people? For me it’s kinda the cornerstone of being human.
A story: a few years ago I decided I wanted to start to gather groups of women together in Rome. I wasn’t quite sure of the how, but I also knew that I wanted it to be my job. Gathering people together has always been one of my “things”and the idea of hosting a women’s circle maybe even felt like a dream that was a little too big, a little too “out there” a little too hard to actually call ‘work’. At the same time that this seed of what I really, really wanted was being planted- the above Alan Watts quote was the wallpaper on my phone (as an aside- seriously, if you don’t already- consider using the wallpaper of your phone as a place to remind yourself of something wonderful).
And so. This picture. This is me after hosting a women’s evening at @thehoxtonhotel with my gal @lauratalafer.
In 2019 when we decided to host our first yoga retreat together we called it “indulge your senses” cause we wanted to give people permission to truly take care of themselves. The name stuck and now we’re doing “Indulge” events and my goodness even typing that makes me feel some kinda way. Anyway. I couldn’t be more excited that this Wednesday night we’re hosting another event. So? I’ll be going to work and how damn delightful to realize it is, indeed, also play.
