Just a gentle, friendly reminder: social media is curated. How easy is it to forget this simple fact?
It’s easy to get lost in what’s right in front of our faces and not think about the nuances of the situation. It’s so funny to me when people assume they know what’s going on with someone cause of what they see on social media. It’s a glimpse. For me I’d say a good 20-30% of my life ends up on here but that’s just a random guess to be honest. Anyway. It’s easy to accept a series of rules and timing that have been sold to us. I mean this in a direct sense: like a lot of people post in real time. And then in a really broad sense: like there are no rules nor is there a statute of limitations on when you should or could or can accomplish things in this one precious and wild life we have.
So I was in Venice two weeks ago and I’m not there today. I’ve had a summer filled with so many beautiful adventures that I want to relive them and repost them and it’s gonna be out of order and it may be filled with pining declarations of missing summer (I mean let’s be honest, it probably will…) and they may also have all kinds of other thoughts cause thus far in my life I don’t really have a ‘social media strategy’ except recognition that this platform (and you!) have helped me teach more yoga, run wellness retreats, step outside of my previous comfort zone, and in general (when I’m doing it right) recognize the beauty in tiny things and remember to take pictures of them, like this perfect sunset shot in Venice.
Also, unpopular opinion: after 2-3 days in Venice I’m always totally over the city. No offense to its magic, it truly woos me for 48 hours… and then I’m more or less done. Anyone else?
p.s. life (both on and off) social media is really delicious and splendid these days and I’m grateful and humbled and in awe of it all. So there’s that too.
