There’s so much beauty in the small things 💛
I’ve been thinking a lot about paying attention. Observing new things about my regular routine and finding delight in them. Paying attention to my body even more in my yoga practice, paying attention to my mind and the thoughts that swirl around in there. Yoga talks about being the witness to your mind instead of attaching so desperately to everything that runs through it. Witnessing, observing, paying attention.
And so, cause I love relating everything back to my love for this city (understatement), I am practicing witnessing more of Rome. Rather than getting lost in my own thoughts or a podcast or craning my neck to stare down at my phone, I’m trying to pay more attention. As I practice being present (and goodness knows I’m not 100% consistent!), I’m noticing more and more tiny details that somehow I hadn’t seen, even after a decade (plus!) living here.
And yeah, I must admit that when it comes to noticing your surroundings Rome is a city that can’t help but show off.
Which brings me to this wintery sunset over one of my favorite under appreciated Roman monuments. The Gasometro (which looks like an industrial inspired remake of the Colosseum) was built in the 1930s and was used to store Rome’s gas supply until the 1960s. I love spotting it in Rome’s skyline and I love how proud the Romans are of it (@co.ro.jewels has a spectacular jewelry collection dedicated entirely to it!) and I love that it indirectly combines two of my favorite periods of history (Ancient Rome + 20th century) and I love that it’s featured in this picture, elegantly placed in front of the sunset.
An invitation: find something in your day-to-day that makes you stop and contemplate it’s beauty. Pay attention to it. Share with me on this thread if you feel called to do so
