Maybe it was a little better before, I was a little better too”
So, just had 6 glorious days of not opening Instagram a single time. I decided this morning I’m not ready for the digital detox to end.
It’s honestly not that I have a problem with Instagram. In fact, I’m posting this image not with some underlying meaning but because it was a cool piece of art on display near Trastevere a few weeks ago.
The truth is, especially over this past crazy year, this platform has done so much for me professionally. It has helped me become a part-time virtual tour guide, it has created a space where people can discover me as a yoga teacher and it has allowed me to promote all sorts of events: teaching yoga on rooftops, leading a yoga retreat in Sicily, doing IG lives as a guide in this beautiful city.
It has helped me continue to hone my writing skills and it has allowed me to connect with so many amazing humans! I get joy out of it and I get inspiration from it- which makes me think that I’m using it right. All in all I’d say that it has more pros than cons. But like all things, even the really good ones, I need a break.
Having made it nearly a week I feel compelled to do the whole month. Rather than worrying about what I’ll miss or losing followers or what I’ll do when I get back on I’m simply deleting it and going on with life and I’ll be back February 1st. Until then, I’m completely reachable on email or snail mail (pretty please!) or all the other normal ways.
Sending big love to all of you and enjoy the hell out of January whether you’re detoxing, re-toxing, or somewhere in between
