“Doing those deeply unfashionable things—slowing down, letting your spare time expand, getting enough sleep, resting—is a radical act now, but it is essential.”

I’m reading a beautiful book called Wintering right now and this quote feels *real* apropos for my current state. The book is about rest, the seasons in our lives, taking time to take care of ourselves and all the other lovely ways we can be quiet and mimic, y’know, the season of winter ❄️
I’m still in Asheville, still soaking in family and friend time, and? If I’m brutally honest: still gently avoiding planning too far ahead for 2022 (I’ve got lots of exciting retreats and events and things coming up, truly I do!).
Taking this book to heart and resting and soaking it all in and being slow and knowing that before I know it this season will come to a close, too.
For now? So. Much. Gratitude. For this little town I grew up in, for family mostly being in one place and for friendships that span decades.
But also? Gratitude for Rome and the life I have there. Gratitude for friends that feel like family and (a few) jobs that I adore. And grateful, in all the senses, for the home I’ve created there.
So. Wintering. Be in the stillness, the silence, the space that you might desire to fill. Marinate in it, patiently. And as you do so, remember that we can’t fully enjoy the excitement without knowing its opposite. Even if it’s just for an hour or a day, can you take a little cue from winter and allow yourself to rest?
