Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.
-Mary Oliver
Spring is officially around the corner. It’s March. The world is insane. The world always has been.
A first century b.c pyramid hanging out amongst 21st century cars and motorini and a big paved road surrounded, practically enveloped by this sunset is worth taking a moment to soak it all the f*ck in. Yeah, I definitely edited/brightened up the colors a little on the sunset. We all know the internet isn’t real by now, right? And I also pinky promise that the real version was even more magical, even more spectacular.
Can we devote, like, even five minutes (or two minutes if five feels like too much) to just noticing the ordinary yet astonishing things that surround us every single damn day?
And cause I can’t resist- here’s a fun random tour guide fact:
When the pyramid was built it had to obey ‘sumptuary laws’ which existed in Ancient Rome to limit extreme displays of wealth (for example in your clothing or in your parties or in your construction of a tomb). Which means this thing is the understated version of a guy deciding he wanted to be buried in a pyramid tomb in Rome. Understated, indeed.
Ooh. And if you’ve made it this far in this post I’m about to send out my second newsletter— I’m gonna start writing more on there and less on here (I think) so follow the link in my story highlights if ya wanna keep up with my ramblings. Tbd if I actually stay consistent but, ya know, that’s the North Star
