Let’s not take ourselves too seriously, okay?

This fun sculpture is an installation in the @chiantisculpturepark called “Construccion para atrapar il tiempo” which basically translates to ‘The Time Trap’. It’s by Pilar Aldana Mendez.

There’s often something playful about interactive art. I can’t decide between writing about dancer’s pose and yoga or about dreams and trapping time or about looking towards the future or any other combination of commentary.

And so. Life is indeed a hilarious dance (get it?) between taking yourself seriously enough to put your dreams and hopes into action and then being flexible and non-serious enough to allow mystery to unfold. It’s about planning, but not over-planning. Direction, but also releasing the control on how we arrive to the final destination. It’s about knowing that when we reach the final destination, we’ll most likely realize that there’s something beyond that, too.

A little over a year ago, right around when this whole pandemic began, I started to write bigger and more expansive things on Instagram. It’s been a delicious exercise in self-expression and I am infinitely grateful to the people (all of you!) who follow along and have reached out to me to teach you yoga, to take you on tours, to host you on wellness experiences in Italy, and everything in between. As I lean into the mystery that is 2021 (and my goodness we’re nearly halfway through!) I surrender to the fact that this year is another elastic one and time is a funny old concept.

So here I am, dancing and pretending to be serious in a piece of art that encourages me to trap time and if I could, then maybe I would but for now: I am grateful and I am learning and I feel free and that’s (way) more than enough.
Sending big love to all of you out there
