It’s been a very bizarre start to June 😂
June 2nd was Italy’s Festa della Repubblica, a national celebration complete with a military parade. I found myself accidentally in front of the Colosseum, with a tour group, and ~60 other people (right? I’ve never been good at counting crowds).
For the millionth time I asked myself this question:
‘How in the world did I (a girl from North Carolina) end up here?”
Here: Italy. Here: as an Italian citizen. Here: in a beyond VIP vantage point to this national celebration (a ‘global’ holiday, as one proud woman exclaimed).
We watched the tricolore planes whoosh over our heads.
We watched firefighters shimmy down the Colosseum with a massive billowing flag.
Some of my clients, bless their hearts, we’re more concerned with getting inside the Colosseum than with this insane once-in-a-lifetime moment.
Rome, as anyone in the city knows, is *teeming* with tourists. The city and its systems are overloaded. Colosseum tickets which used to be difficult to get are now impossible. Big tour companies are canceling tours at the detriment of their reputation.
There is a strange sense of urgency that flutters over the city center and yet it’s also beautiful having tourists back and people working and everything in its place.
For me, the chaos is striking a personal cord: I’m trying to graciously leave behind guiding (a job I mostly love that has sustained me for over a decade).
This month I have also been hit by a car (I’m fine, the accident was slow and was my fault), gotten a bus ticket (also my fault), tweaked my shoulder, and walked over 15,000 steps almost every single day.
I haven’t been present on IG because I know that what I want to talk about is:
-launching two retreats in October and *why* I’m not leading any this summer
-the beautiful things I’m learning about humans and bodies and somatics
-what being a woman is to me
-the way my yoga teaching and practice are evolving
-how I got nude photos done in January that *literally* changed my life
It’s coming. Again. Soon.
For now I’m blurry between identities: Tour Guide vs. Embodiment Coach. Thanks for being patient with me while I shed my old skin 🐍
