Mirroring!

I write a lot. I wrote about #mirroring and was looking for a photo and this one has a mirror and yeah, you get it, I won’t over-explain (ha).

Background: went to @sephoraitalia to buy concealer. Ended up with a beautiful man named Emanuele contouring my face which my goodness *really* changes things. Sent it to @katcking cause it was so surprising. Never expected to post it publicly. Here we are. Also makeup is amazing.

So: Today was day 1 of my final module of my somatic body-oriented coaching course. It’s magic. I haven’t shared *that* much about it. I will, promise.

Today we talked about mirroring. Mimicking a client’s actions as a way to draw somatic awareness to them and their inner experience.

It’s a very cool tool. It’s also easy to exaggerate when practicing it because you want the coach to think you really *get* the exercise.

I performed rather than seeking connection. It made me think about 10+ years as a tour guide, over-performing and often feeling pretty damn drained at the end.

So. Guilty.

It made me think of performing to earn approval, to “earn”connection. Often people feel like they have to be someone completely different at work, at home, in relationship, in life.

I’m a performer by nature. In former iterations of me, I overdid it as a way to connect with people. And as I get more comfy in my own skin, I perform a little bit less and connect a lot deeper.

I think that’s some real hashtag growth if I do say so myself and I’m pretty excited that I realized it and this is maybe an “over share” but hey, at least I’m not over-performing. Thanks for coming to my very thoughtful discussion on connecting and mirroring. Do you notice yourself in any of the above?
*share in the comments or send me a message. Partly cause IG algorithms but also cause I genuinely wanna know if this resonates and I’m always oh so curious to hear from you, the lovely human who just took the time to read all of this 💛
