What do we do when our world has been turned upside down?

This isn’t the first time I’ve used this metaphor and I’m sure it won’t be the last. The uncertainty of this current moment is palpable. I feel it too, y’all. Fear of the unknown is intrinsically woven into the human experience and it is on full-heightened alert right now. Its hard to draw the line between when our fear is rational and when it isn’t.

Most fears come from the fact that we are hardwired to seek safety and security. There is not a lot of security in being upside down physically (an inversion posture like headstand) or emotionally.

When I started doing yoga years ago I never, I repeat, never thought I would be able to do inversions. The sheer idea of being upside down made me want to panic. Slowly, I am learning. Learning to trust myself and my own efforts + decisions. Learning to go slowly instead of rushing into it. Learning to fall and get up again, gracefully. Learning to let go of fear and allow things (me) to be upside down.

Clearly, the above lessons can be applied to all fears, not just the fear of being upside down. So here we all are. Navigating a pandemic. And our own fears. And a whole lot of uncertainty. It’s a lot. Sending big love, and having faith that even if we fall down or give in to fear, we can get back up again ❤️
